Viewing multiple images

The following steps assume that at least one image series has been loaded.

Viewing a single image from an image series

Load an image series into an image window. (See Loading an image for this step.) To change which image is displayed,

1.     Drag the scrollbar on the left hand side up or down.

The image number is displayed on the status bar.

Dynamic (4D) series

For 4D series, the dropdown on the top can either be 'All', 'Slice' or 'Dynamic' and when changing between these, it is possibel to either view all slices, or all dynamics. If the dropdown is not present on a 4D series, right-click on the series and select 'Create 4D series'. If this is not possible, this might be a sign that some frames are missing and the series is not complete. See more information here.

Viewing the images as a movie

The images can be displayed as a movie in a separate window.

1.     On the Main menu select the View menu and the Movie menu item

A new window is displayed, and the images are shown in a rapid sequence.
The scrolling speed can be changed.

1.     Try dragging the ruler bar to the left (slower) and to the right (faster)

The scrolling can be stopped and started again.

1.     Press the button labeled Pause.

2.     The button is relabeled to Play. Press the button again.

When the scrolling is stopped, you can go to the next or previous image.

1.     Press the button labeled Pause.

2.     Go to the next image by pressing the right button.

3.     And then go back again by pressing the left button.

Notice that the image number is displayed in the title bar.

1.     Close the Movie window by clicking on the x button at the right of the title bar, or by pressing ALT+F4. A third possibility is to press ALT+Space and use the arrow keys to scroll down to the Close menu item, and select it by typing enter

The movie window can be opened by pressing the movie tool bar button Movie Icon

Linking image windows

The image series in different image windows can be linked so that scrolling in one window scrolls the images in the other window at the same time. This can be useful if you want to compare two different image series, passably with different modalities, of the same body part.

Remove customization

The linking functionality can be customized. Hence the first thing to do is to check that nordicICE is using the default settings for linking. You only need to perform these steps if you are using an installation of nordicICE that someone else has used before you, or if you have modified the settings yourself. For a new installation, the settings will be the default settings.

1.     On the Main menu, select the Options menu and the General... menu item.

2.     In the Settings dialog, select the Image linking tab.

3.     Make sure that Image scrolling, Image zoom / pan and Image smoothing are checked, and that Image window width / level is unchecked. Correct any differences.

4.     Click the OK button.

Link and play with images

Load a second image series if you only have one images series loaded. Make sure that both image windows are visible.

1.     Press the Shift button. Notice that the images in the active image window acquire a red frame.

2.     While holding the Shift button down, click on another image window.

Notice that both image window have a red frame. The red frame indicates that the image windows are linked.

1.     Drag the scrollbar in one of the image windows up or down.

Notice that the image in the other image window also changes, and that the scrollbar is also moved.
Some functions now work on both image windows. This includes
Magnification:

1.     On the Main menu, select the Modify menu and the Increase image size menu item twice.

Zooming

1.     On the Main menu, select the Modify menu and the Zoom menu item.

2.     To increase the magnification, click within one of the images and drag the mouse down.

Panning

1.     On the Main menu, select the Modify menu and the Pan menu item.

2.     Click within in the image and drag the mouse in the direction you want the image to move.

Smoothing

1.     On the Main menu, select the Modify menu and the smooth menu item.

Change of palette

1.     On the Main menu, select the Modify menu and the Palette submenu.

2.     From the submenu that becomes available, select Cardiac palette.

To release the link between the image windows

1.     Click anywhere on the nordicICE background.

Notice that the red borders vanish, indicating that the image frames are no longer linked.

  • You can change which functions work on both the linked images in the Image linking tab of the Settings dialog.
