Image volume translation in MPR

In MPR the image volume may be rotated and/or translated in order to view the volume in different perspectives. The rotation and transformation modes are activated from the Edit entry in the menu of the MPR window.

Rotation

When rotation mode is activated a rotation "pie" is shown in each projection plane. Each pie has an arm that may be dragged in order to rotate the projection around the rotation axis of the given pie. The rotation of any of the projections may be reset by clicking the corresponding Reset button. All rotations may be reset simultaneously by clicking Reset all rotations in the main menu.
The order of rotations is predefined in nordicICE. The order is as follows:

1.     rotation around the I-S axis (in the axial plane)

2.     rotation around the R-L axis (in the sagittal plane)

3.     rotation around the A-P axis (in the coronal plane)

Translation

In translation mode each projection plane may be dragged to its new position. The translation of any of the projections may be reset by clicking the corresponding Reset button. And all translations may be reset simultaneously by clicking Reset all translations in the main menu.

Transformations and manual coregistration

When  rotation or translation modes are selected while doing manual coregistration the applied transformations are performed on the overlay only. In order to transform both underlay and overlay simultaneously manual coregistration has to be disabled.

Tips:

  • Many of the actions listed above may be invoked using the keyboards shortcut listed at the menu item.
  • Alternatively actions may be launched using the popup menu activated by right clicking any of the projection images.

Alternatives:

  • It is possible to save the transformed volume to file from the File menu. The saved image volume is created from the pixel data of the original image volume and transformed according to the user's rotations and/or translations.
  • The transformations themselves may be exported to and imported from files. By selecting Export transformations... on the File menu the current transformation is saved to a text file. nordicICE allocates suffix *.trf for transformation files. Following the export of transformations to a file a different image volume may be opened, MPR started and the saved transformation may be applied using Import transformation... in the File menu.
